Union public service commissions every conduct a national level civil service examination. UPSC CS examination is also known as IAS / IPS Examination. First of all UPSC conduct Pre exam for all candidates for screening purpose only. All those candidates who will be declared qualified in the pre examination they will be call for mains examination and in this last all qualified candidates in mains examination will be call for personal interview test.
UPSC Mains Examination held for asses the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of the candidates rather than merely the range of their information and memory.

Qualifying Question paper A : one of the Indian language – 300 marks
Paper B – English Language – 300 marks
Paper to be counted for Merit Preparation
Paper 1 Essay 250 marks
Paper 2 General Study I Indian heritage and culture, history and geography of the world and society 250 marks
Paper 3 General Study paper 2 Governance, constitution, polity, social justice and international relations. 250 marks
Paper IV general study III Technology, Economics, Development, bio diversity, environment, security and disaster management 250 marks
Paper V general study IV ethics, integrity and aptitude 250 marks
Optional Subject paper 1 250 marks
Optional Subject Paper 2 250 marks
Personal interview test – 275 marks
Grand Total for Mains written examination 1750 + personal interview test – 275
Overall Total – 2020 Marks
