The central government is about to issue a new form to link aadhaar number with the voter list. After this the citizens of India can add Aadhaar number to the voter list.
All such citizens of India, whose name is in the voter list till April 1, 2023, will be able to add Aadhaar number to the voter list.
Other Valid Documents to Add Aadhar Number to Voter List
There will also be an option to share other ID options like MGNREGA, health insurance card, driving license and PAN card in case Aadhaar card is not available.
Benefits of adding aadhaar number to voter list
The government has amended the voter registration rules to allow linking of Aadhaar details with the voter list. Through this, duplicate entries will be removed and the election law for 'Service Voters' will be made gender neutral. Soldiers posted in remote areas or members of Indian missions abroad are considered 'Service Voters'.
Procedure to add Aadhar number to voter list
A new Form-6B has been introduced to allow existing voters to share their Aadhaar number. The Legislative Department of the Union Law Ministry issued a notification on Friday night saying that the rules have been amended in line with the provisions of the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, passed by Parliament in December last year. The Electoral Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2022 will come into force from August 1.
According to the notification - on or before April 1, 2023, the person whose name is included in the voter list can add his Aadhaar number.
Anyone who does not have an Aadhar card will have the option to share other proofs like MNREGA card, health insurance smart card, driving license and PAN card issued under the scheme of the labor ministry.
Eligibility for linking aadhar number with voter list
Now a citizen who has completed 18 years of age on 1st January or 1st April or 1st July or 1st October of any year can apply for registration as an instant voter. In order to make the election law gender-neutral, the word 'wife' has been removed and 'spouse' has been included. With this, the wife or husband of the 'Service Voter' will get the facility available to vote.
